Kausar Saboohi

Kausar Saboohi is a member of Dr. Michael Overduin's laboratory in the Department of Biochemistry at the University of Alberta.

She is studying the interactions of proteins that direct traffic between the trans Golgi network and plasma membrane. The FAPP proteins she is focused on are overexpressed in breast and prostate cancer cells, and may alter the presence of lipids in the cell surface. Kausar is also developing molecular libraries to screen proteins for optimal conditions and ligands that are useful for biological and drug discovery research.

Kausar received a PhD in Biochemistry from the University of Karachi, Pakistan. She then worked as a Senior Research Officer at the Department of Biological and Biomedical Sciences in the Aga Khan University. She was involved in molecular biology, genetics, immunology and proteomics analysis, and is now pursuing her interests in cancer research. Kausar also studied nanotechnology systems at the Northern Alberta Institute of Nanotechnology, where she was a brand ambassador.
